Sometimes I become so engrossed in online games that I use my money to buy some assets in my favorite games so I could just equip myself to defeat a stranger on the internet. The crazy thing is, I have like five of these favorite games. And sometimes, I get bored of some games and abandon them.

My non-gamer friends would often criticize me for using my hard-earned money to buy just assets on games that I could just abandon anytime or might be removed from the server anytime.

Well, I guess they can’t understand since they are not gamer’s right?

Now imagine I can use the PKM that I purchased in Game of Duty to carry out mission in Grand Theft Auto game. What if I can also transfer the 2014 Ferrari Horizon FXX K that I bought in Foriza Horizon 4 to another car race game. What if I could trade my game ammunitions for real world currency so as to get my money back?

This is one of the many innovative transformations that the blockchain technology has brought to gaming. Remember that blockchain technology is majorly based around the idea of decentralization- that is the absence of a centralized control. Although crypto gaming is in its early age, there is no doubt that it would be the future of online gaming.

So let’s dive right in.

What is Crypto Gaming?

Crypto gaming is a form of online-gaming that is powered by the blockchain technology. It ensures that players have complete control of accounts and assets in the game. Players would be able to convert those assets to cash any time they please.

They are also disrupting the traditional gaming market by allowing gamers to earn while playing and in places like the Phillipines, people have turned gaming into their daily jobs! For example, Axie Infinity, a popular crypto gaming platform allows players to buy a character known as Axies, develop and take care of them and then sell at a higher price.

How do they work?

Traditional games monetize their games through affiliate marketing, and in-app purchases. All the money made and even the assets bought belong to the developer. If the game is removed from the server, or the player chooses not to play the game again, the assets bought are all gone.

The edge brought by crypto gaming is the removal of the centralized control in games. Every of the player now owns a part of the game and the rewards made from it. The crypto game is based of a blockchain, which is a distributed ledger that keeps records of all the transactions in the game.

Items bought in the game would be stored in the blockchain, and since the blockchain cannot be altered, the assets bought would still remain on the blockchain forever till . Assets can also be exchanged between gamers easily through the use of cryptocurrency.

Since all the crypto games are on the same blockchain technology like Ethereum, it would be so easy to transfer assets bought in a game and send it to another player in another game. You can also sell your assets for real money. To be honest, as a gamer, that is so awesome!

Popular Crypto Games

These are examples of crypto games that you can start playing

1. Axie Infinity

This a popular Play To Earn game that started in the Philippines. For a start, you would have to buy at least 3 game characters known as Axies. And with the advent of Metaverse, Web 3, and NFTs, I believe, crypto gaming would be a major game changer in the nearest future.
